I so agree with your concern- I do like reading books on my eReader, so I’d probably make an exception for that- the ability to highlight, particularly for nonfiction, has become essential to me. But the random reading of little scraps of things online can be quite a rabbit hole. I’ve found using a service like Instapaper / Pocket / Readwise Reader has helped a LOT. Instead of reading the long article on the actual site in the moment, I save it to my reader, and read it later if it’s still on my mind. This might be a good way to save things you feel the pull to read this month? But it seems like you’ll have the experience I have- that by the time I go to the reader, the interest has waned and I’m far less likely to take the time to read every article I’ve saved- just the ones I’m most compelled by.
